Triyak Tadasana (Swinging Palm Tree Pose)

Triyak Tadasana is one of the simple postures which helps in relieving constipation and detoxification of the body. In this pose the body resembles as if a palm tree is swinging due to wind, hence its name.

This pose is extension of Tadasana and has similar effects to that pose plus some additional effects and benefits.

How To Practice Triyak Tadasana?
  1. Stand with feet around 2 to 3 feet apart.

  2. With inhalation take the hands above your head and lock the fingers.

  3. Now with exhalation stretch to your right. Try to bend as much as possible towards your waist.

  4. Stay for around 10 breaths and with inhalation come back to original position.

  5. Now repeat the same towards the left side.

  6. Repeat the entire steps for 5 times.

  7. With exhalation bring the hands down.

Benefits of Triyak Tadasana
  1. It stretches the sides of the waist and reduces the fat from them. This happens especially during the Laghu Shankh Prakshalan when it is done after drinking lukewarm water.

  2. The entire back and the nerves are massaged. The spinal cord is stretched which increases the blood flow in the region.

  3. Intestine is stretched and improves the peristaltic movement and helps in cleaning the intestine and helps in relieving constipation.

  4. Improves the body balance and keeps you mentally alert.

Yoga for Knee Ligaments and Butts - Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose)









Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose) is a basic standing pose used for loosening the leg muscles as well as working on various muscles which are not usually used in day to day work. Initially when you start practicing this pose you will find it tough but with time it will become easier. As you keep on practicing you will gain knowledge about the weaker muscles of your legs and will be able to make those muscles stronger. In this pose the ligaments of the knees, especially on the outer side of the legs are stretched thus making them stronger.

Areas affected by Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose)
In this pose outer sides of the legs, inner thigh muscles near the groin and the chest muscles are worked upon. Since the abdomen is pressed, the inner organs of the abdomen are massaged, which helps in relieving constipation and increases the digestion. Due to the twisted pose, upper leg muscles near the butt are also exercises.

From personality perspective, since it involves opening up of the chest, it is good for introvert people as it will open you up. Opening up of the chest also helps the lungs and helps patients of Asthma.

At the mental level this pose improves concentration and body balance as you need a lot of concentration and precision to be able to carry it out correctly. Along with Utthitha Trikonsasna this asana forms the important sequence in the standing poses.

Initially you can use blocks or some elevated objects where you can rest the palm and with practice you would be able to come to the proper position without any prop.

Steps to Practice Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose)
  1. Stand on the mat with legs separated around 3 to 3.5 feet apart and arms stretched out.

  2. Rotate the right foot outside so that it is around 90 degrees to the body. Adjust the left foot so that body balance is maintained.

  3. With exhalation move down the left hand so that it touches the ground outside the right foot and at the same time bring the right hand above the shoulders

  4. Look up and try to pull the right hand above and so that both the hands are in line with each other.

  5. Stay in this pose for 20 to 30 seconds with normal breathing.

  6. Come out of the pose with inhalation and repeat the pose on the other side.


Note : Initially you the place the lower hand inside the legs till you gain enough strength to put the hands outside.

Benefits Of Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose)
  1. The abdomen is pressed therefore useful in Constipation, Digestive problems and cleanses the internal organs

  2. It stretches and strengthens the leg muscles and opens the chest to facilitate better breathing and good for Asthmatic conditions.

Triyak Bhujanga Asana (Twisted Cobra Pose)

Lot of time when we see a yogi practicing, it become difficult to conceive how we can practice those difficult poses. This can be discouraging lot of times and stop people from taking up yoga practice. The truth is there are several yoga poses which are quite easy to practice yet provide powerful benefits. Even simple yoga poses are good way to improve physical condition and calm down the mind.

Triyak Bhujangasana (Twisted Cobra Pose) which is a variation of the Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) is a simple pose which proves that yoga does not have to be complicated. The benefits of this pose consists of proving a back stretch and assisting in the peristaltic movement thus helping in cases of constipation.

Steps to Practice Triyak Bhujanga Asana
  1. Lie on the abdomen and place the hands beside the shoulders on the floor. Feet should be around one feet apart with toes tucked under.

  2. While inhaling raise the upper body with the help of the arms and look up.
  3. With exhalation slowly turn the head and upper body to the right and look over the right shoulder towards the left heel.

  4. Stay in this position for some time and the awareness should be on the back area of the left side.

  5. With inhalation bring back the head to the center again.

  6. Now repeat the pose on the left side.

  7. After 2 to 3 repetitions on both the sides bring back the body to starting position with exhalation


Caution
Do not practice this pose in case of severe back pain and hernia.

Benefits of Triyak Bhujanga Asana
  1. In this pose the back muscles are pulled, especially the muscles which are on the outer edges of the back. Usually these muscles are not exercised much and this pose make them stronger and flexible. This also help in back pains.

  2. Increases flexibility of the spine.

  3. Increases the arm strength.

  4. Helps in constipation.

Practicing this pose will also increase the focus and awareness can be easily be brought to the the sides of the body. usually when we do some exercise of practice some pose we work on muscles which are either on front or the back of the body and ignore the outer sides of the body. The sides of the body including the arms, area below the armpit, outer sides of the abdomen and right down to the legs are stretched.

Steps to Practice Triyak Tadasana?
  1. Stand with feet around 2 to 3 feet apart.

  2. With inhalation take the hands above your head and lock them.

  3. Make sure that the locked palms face upwards.

  4. Now with exhalation stretch to your right. Try to bend as much as possible towards your waist and try to make the arms parallel to the ground.

  5. Adjust the left chest and try to bring it upwards as much as possible. This will give a slight twist to the upper and the lower back regions.

  6. Stay for around 10 breaths and with inhalation come back to original position.

  7. when you are in the pose make sure that the weight is equally distributed in both the legs and not only on the side where you are bending

  8. Now repeat the same towards the left side.

  9. Repeat the entire steps for 5 times on both sides.

  10. With exhalation bring the hands down.

Relieve digestive problems with Pada Hastasana - Hands to Feet Pose

Padahastasana
Pada Hastasana - Hands to Feet pose is a forward bending pose which apart from other benefits is excellent for relieving digestion problems including constipation. It is also included in the Surya Namaskar sequence as the third and the tenth pose. It is also an inverted pose so you would also get the benefits of inverted poses.

How to Practice Pada Hastasana?
  1. Stand with both legs together in Tadasana (Tree Pose). If you are practicing Surya Namaskar you will come to this pose from Hast Uttanasana (Raised hands pose)

  2. Inhale deeply. With exhalation bend forward slowly.

  3. Try to touch the floor with your hands.

  4. If you are unable to touch the floor with the hands, stay in the pose for few breaths and then try to stretch a little bit more. Again after few breaths bend a little bit more.

  5. For a little bit more stretch, now tighten your hamstrings a little bit. You should be stretch a bit more.

  6. Hold your legs with the hands and try to bring the head as close to the legs as possible

  7. Stay in this pose for few seconds in the beginning and then come out of it with inhalation.


Benefits of Pada Hastasana
Pada Hastasana has numerous benefits. During this posture, there is increased flow of blood towards the head without the difficulties of inverted postures faced in other inverted postures like Halasana or Sarvangasana. Due to this increased blood flow, the glands are soaked in blood which removes toxins from them and makes them healthier.

  1. Stretches the hamstrings on the back of the legs

  2. Abdominal organs are toned.

  3. Relieves constipation, indigestion and other gastric troubles

Here is how you can cure Constipation

Constipation is the reason for many diseases and can be caused by variety of reasons. Irregular motions which can some times last for 2 or 3 days is known as constipation. Constipation causes lethargy, loss of appetite, head ache, bad smell from mouth, piles, mouth sores and other diseases.

Major reasons behind constipation are lack of physical exercise or activity, excessive consumption of tea or coffee, lack of fiber in food and eating refined food or high fat animal products, diseases of liver, not chewing the food properly etc.

Here are few ways to prevent and cure constipation. To cure and prevent constipation it is very important to maintain an healthy lifestyle. Drink around 1.5 liters of water first thing in the morning. Please see the article on water therapy for this. Regular exercises and inversion asanas like Sarvangasana are extremely good. Including vegetables in the diet and chewing the food properly helps in the easier digestion and prevents constipation.

Guava

Guava is a much ignored fruit but contains the vital vitamins A, B and C and various minerals like phosphorus etc. It contains lot of fiber and excellent for treating constipation. Taking one or two ripe guava in the evening is extremely beneficial.

Triphala
Triphala consists for three herbs Amla, Baheda and Hartaki and is one of the most potent combination for curing constipation. Taking two teaspoons spoon of Triphala with water or milk in the night clears the stomach quite easily and at the same time it is not habit forming. To increase the effectiveness of Triphala take it with one third amount of Carom seed powder(Ajwain in Hindi) and Rock salt and take it with warm water.

Gulkand (Rose Petal Jam)

Gulkand is prepared by mixing rose petals and sugar in a glass jar and putting the jar in the sun for 3 to 4 weeks. The ratio of Rose petals to Sugar is 1:2. This is an excellent tonic for enhancing the digestive system and relieves constipation. It cleans the intestines, reduces the body heat therefore the acne and pimples are cured. Apart from this it is excellent for treating acidity. Take Gulkand with warm milk or water for constipation relief.
