Gout is a type of arthritis which happens due to accumulation of urea in the blood. Usually it starts from the toes in the feet but it can also start from other places. If proper care is not taken it can gradually spread to ankles, knees, and hip and shoulder joints. This is a quite painful condition and there is a swelling in the joints.
Usually it is difficult to predict this condition, however if there is family history of joint pain then it is more likely to happen to you. The reason for this condition or disease is not known to medical science.
To detect gout a simple blood test is conducted which can determine the uric acid levels in your blood. The normal range is 3.5 – 7 mg/dl for males and 2.5 to 5.7 mg/dl for females. If the uric acid level is close to or above 7 in males and 5.7 in females, it means that the uric acid levels are high.

As per doctors gout cannot be cured and medicine needs to be taken life long to keep it under control. Since uric acid is byproduct of proteins all seeds and pulses need to be avoided. Red meat and alcohol should also be avoided. Apart from this when there is increase in pain it is safe to assume that the uric acid levels have increased; hence more water should be taken to flush it out through the urine.
When there is swelling and pain exercise should also be avoided.
