Yoga keeps both the mind and the body healthy, and can help us relax and increase strength. Those who practice yoga say that it is the answer to nearly everything. But did you know there you can boost your fertility with yoga poses too? Doing yoga on a regular basis can do wonders for women trying to get pregnant. In fact yoga has been found to be so effective that many people use yoga to boost fertility.

Of course, doing yoga will not get you get pregnant all by itself – you have to have sexual intercourse too. I apologize for the silly joke. Sometimes I can’t help myself. Perhaps all that yoga made me too relaxed. On a more serious note though, combining yoga with a healthy and balanced diet, cutting out alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes, and working on reducing stress might be the best road to pregnancy success as quickly as possible.

Here are a few yoga poses that encourage hormone production, increase blood flow to the right organs, and make the mind more receptive. These poses are quite popular while using yoga for fertility.

  1. The child’s pose (Balasana) is a pose that relaxes body and mind. It looks just like the fetal position that unborn children assume inside the uterus. To get to the child’s pose, simply lower yourself onto your knees, and bend your head forward to the ground. Then, position both arms to the side of your body, with your hands next to your feet. This is a great pose for meditation.
  2. The supported headstand (Salamba Sirsasana) can easily start from the child’s pose. Move your hands to the side of your head, with your head between your fingers, and let your body rise off the ground. After exhaling, move your legs next to each other, and allow them to swing up into the air. Hold this pose for around ten seconds, and then slowly bend down. This position can be tricky to get into, so you might want to have a partner nearby to support you if you need it.
  3. The lotus pose (Padmasana) is probably the most well known and simple to accomplish yoga position. This pose is said to be the best meditating position because it makes the mind let go of its control over the body. The lotus pose exercises the abdomen, groin and spine, and is good to prepare for birth when you are pregnant too.
  4. The reclining hero (Supta Virasana) is another yoga pose that opens up the body. To get there, you have to lie flat on your back, and move your lower legs up to your tummy. Your feet will end up next to your thigh bones, and then you move your hands towards the feet. When done correctly, the reclining hero does look similar to a fallen warrior on a battlefield. Yet, this is an ideal position to relax in, and it increases blood circulation in the right areas.
  5. The seated forward bend (Paschimottanasana) is a yoga pose that is well-known, like the lotus position. Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you to reach the seated forward bend. Move your head onto your knees, and then stretch your arms out to rest on the outer side of your legs. Yoga instructors recommend that you stay in this pose for a few minutes. Concentrate on your breathing, and then come up very slowly.
There are other yoga poses that can boost fertility, but these five are a great start, and not too difficult to accomplish for people who are new to yoga. Along with a daily hour of yoga, a healthy lifestyle, and the use of tools that let you know when you are at your most fertile, such as ovulation calendar, ovulation tests and tracking your basal body temperature will hopefully have you pregnant in no time!

Thanks a lot for this article. Are there any other tips/asanas which are useful during pregnancy?
