Benefits of Meditation

Many people perceive meditation to be a practice which suppresses the thoughts and is mainly practiced by saints or spiritual people and difficult to follow for common people. Few other associate meditation with particular religion and thus avoid it. There is also another group of people who think it is wastage of time just sitting there still and doing nothing, while a group of people think this is a difficult practice and requires a lot of hard work and persistence.

I also used to think that meditation is beneficial but difficult to practice -- and it, changed when someone just told me "Meditation is not that difficult as you think.". Once I put this thought in my mind it became easier to meditate. When you start any activity with open and positive mind it becomes easier to progress. Same is the case with meditation.

Meditation is a subject which many researchers mind interesting and there are numerous experiments which are conducted to observe the effects of meditation on the mind and the behavior. Researchers have also found that it is not that difficult to practice and in a relatively short time compared to common perception you can start enjoying the benefits.

I recently came across an article which is based on research on effects of meditation. This research was conducted by department of Psychology at UNC Charlotte, and Bruce J. Diamond from William Patterson University. The reports suggest that including meditation in daily routine even for a short amount of time increases concentration levels within a few days.

Researcher noticed progress and improvement in just 4 days of 20 minutes meditation, which is really remarkable. Interestingly the ability to work better in stressful condition was measured and great results were discovered which can prove to be of great benefit when working at some stressful project or trying to solve some problem.

Here are two reports from the Science Daily.
